Mission Statement
The mission of the North Branch Area Legislative Action Committee (NBALAC) is to actively advocate for legislation that supports quality education from K-12 in Minnesota public schools with a focus on issues specific to the North Branch School District. In addition, the NBALAC will inform our community of legislative activities that pertain to public education.
Goals
- Formulate positions on legislative issues that affect K-12 public education with a focus on issues that impact the North Branch School District.
- Maintain a presence at the capitol, working to establish long term relationships with North Branch’s legislators and encouraging them to promote favorable legislation for education.
- Educate our legislators regarding the impact of state and federal legislation (past and future) and its effects on North Branch schools.
- Educate the community regarding the positive and negative aspects of state and federal legislation (past and future), and monitor its affect on North Branch schools.
- Work with other North Branch groups to strengthen advocacy efforts at the state and federal level.
- Network with other statewide groups advocating for public schools.
- Monitor and oppose all attempts to diminish support from the public education system.
Short-term Goals
- Strongly advocate for the LAC’s 2009 Platform.
- Maintain and improve a communication network with North Branch’s legislators.
- Strengthen the communication delivery system that increases community awareness of issues and provides opportunity for input.
- Nurture the parent/community network capable of a quick response to Legislators on proposed education or finance legislation.
Membership
The committee will be comprised of representatives from the various District communities. Membership will remain unlimited and recruiting done by active members of the NBALAC to reflect community geographic areas.
