Clearly and briefly state why you are writing. Use one page or less. Address each letter individually and write each letter as an individual. Avoid group letters or petitions.
When you write concerning a specific bill:
- I am a parent in the ________________ Program in the North Branch Area Public School District which serves ____ families.
- State the bill’s name and House or Senate File Number.
- State how the bill affects the program.
- State how the bill affects your family personally.
- Tell the benefits the program has made for your family and for you.
- Conclude with “For the above mentioned reasons, I would ask you to support (or not to support) (bill name and number). Thank you for your time and attention.”
- Sign your full name and address.
When you write concerning a specific issue:
- I am a parent in the ________________ Program in the North Branch Area Public School District which serves ____ families.
- Clearly state what you want your legislator to know. Relate the fact to yourself and and your program.
- State what action you want taken.
- Conclude with “Thank you for your time and attention.”
- Sign your full name and address.
